But the stand out performer here is Akshaye Kumar in a two minute cameo playing a homosexual to hilarious effect. Akshaye Khanna plays the main antagonist and he's in the same form as he was a few years ago in Race. Saqib Saleem plays the cricketer and the victim and the only big challenge in his performance is the multiple shoulder dislocation. Jacqueline Fernandez looks pretty but apart from sizzling in the Sau tarah ke song, she has very little to do. Both actors look at ease in their characters, effortlessly sailing through one gag after the other. John Abraham takes care of the machismo while Varun Dhawan deals with the comedy. Dishoom has the trappings to entertain fans of '80s and '90s movies. The motorcycle and side carriage stunt is a slick throwback to movies like Sholay and Main Khiladi Tu Anari. The helicopter stunt right at the end is a never-seen-before moment in Hindi cinema at least. There are car chases, bullet fights, running around, easy humour and just one song in the middle: Sau tarah ke. It doesn't waste time with sentimentality or characterisation, it just throttles from one scene to the other.

At just over 2-hours long, the movie seems like a breeze. Every situation in the movie is either a set up for an action sequence or a comedy gag. The story is classic masala movie formula. So the unlikely team of a tough cop and a funny cop get down to tracking the cricket star and his kidnappers. Kabir thinks he can have his way with the investigation by muscling out Junaid as his partner. Junaid's number one unsolved case is that of a missing bull dog named Bradman. Kabir has issues with authority, so in a bid to bypass the stifling police department in the foreign country, he decides to team up with the bumbling cop Junaid (Varun Dhawan). Once he goes missing, the Indian authorities send in their toughest cop Kabir (John Abraham) to investigate and rescue Viraj. Viraj is a superstar and the one hope of Indian cricket, kind of like Virat Kohli. The movie kick starts with a missing Indian cricket star called Viraj (Saqib Saleem) somewhere in the Middle East. It'll sweetly settle in to your suspension of disbelief, just like popcorn entertainment should. It won't challenge your ability to comprehend, neither will it offend your sensibilities. It's classic Hindi movie fluff, updated with modern filmmaking styles. This two-hero team up is unmistakably high on masala movie set pieces and easy to digest. Picture it like a cross between David Dhawan's Bade Miya Chhote Miya and Abbas Mustan's Race. These movies were a heady mixture of physical comedy and action thrills. Some of the Abraham-Dhawan bro-time is okay too, but borrows from the ‘Men In Black’ duo Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith in the way they, Kabir and Junaid, go about addressing each other, yes, K and J.Cast: Varun Dhawan, John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez, Saqib Saleemīuddy cop action movies were a specialty back in the '90s. It comes alive only in bits and pieces: Akshay Kumar’s cameo, for instance, as a pouting-selfie-clicking man bun is a hoot. Akshay Kumar’s as a pouting, selfie-clicking man is hilarious in Dishoom.ĭishoom’s villains are a letdown, not even properly evil in a matching comic-book way. The boys have comely female company in the shape of the two gals, Jacqueline Fernandez and Nargis Fakhri, the former with a few speaking scenes and an item number where she cavorts in the midst of leering men, and the latter who’s around for purely decorative purposes. Both also get to shuck their shorts and show off their stuff in colourful briefs. The slit-eyed stony-faced experienced cop and the bumbling rookie is an old Hollywood cliché but can turn into fun in the hands of good actors and directors: here, Dhawan and Abraham display limited wares, the former in his young wide-eyed joe avatar, and the latter swathed in tight tees and a permanent frown, swaggering down sandy desert outposts and shadowy villains’ dens. Local boy Junaid Ansari (Dhawan) partners with the visitor, and off they go, sleuthing.
Indian Special Task Force cop Kabir Shergill (Abraham) is parachuted into a Middle Eastern country, which is the site of the crime. Match-winning boy-in-blue Viraj Sharma (Saleem) disappears just a couple of days before a crucial match with Pakistan.
